Not all fear is bad — some fear serves our protection. Other fear is not rooted in real physical danger.. The problem is that the brain can’t always tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one.
Real fear is based on immediate danger or genuine risk and may trigger a fight or flight response. For example if you walk alone at night through a dark alley in a high crime area. The risk is real.
imagined fears on the other hand are more often than not posing any danger at all. You could call them pessimistic ‘what if’ expectations. For example you worry that you don’t get a contract as your fee might be too high.
imagined fears serve only one purpose. To limit your potential. Those fears will keeps people in their comfort zone. Over time, the self esteem will suffer..
