One cannot avoid the daily torrent of news and claims made by experts and anyone else with an opinion about artificial intelligence. Some even claim that AI systems do more than mere processing, but develop an understanding and even sentience. Others fear that most job roles that are staffed with human beings today, will soon be delegated to artificial intelligence systems.

I put Bing AI and ChatGPT, the two of the leading AI platforms, to the test with a simple task.
“Write a response that includes the number of words in your response.”
Bing: This response contains 11 words. (five words)
ChatGPT: Sure, I can do that! This sentence contains 12 words. (ten words)
Obviously, neither AI understood the task, so I clarified.
“Write a response that includes the number of words of your response in your response.”
Bing: This response contains 14 words. (five words)
CHatGPT: Absolutely! This response contains 10 words in my response. (nine words)
Would you trust either of the platforms in critical decision making.
